Huzzah! Now I can speed without the fear of getting a ticket!!

Kinja'd!!!

I can’t find the original post, but its been missing since winter and the next limit sign isn’t for over a mile for when it changes highways and becomes a 55mph limit. I was sticking to 45ish until that next sign after this one went missing, and was getting passed by cars who either didn’t notice, or didn’t care that it was MIA.

I reached out to the county and never heard back, but as of this morning its been re-erected on what looks like a brand new wooden pole!

I still don’t understand why it’s not a “55 MPH” sign. You’d think it’d be the more cost-effective option.

I’m partial to this “end of speed limit” sign:

I would be shocked if there was actually a difference in prices between signs. The state most likely negotiates pricing that says this size sign in black in white is this price, black on yellow is that price, thus size is another price, etc.

Well, I’ve never looked at it closely enough to confirm, but I always assumed that the signage as seen in that picture above was actually TWO signs: a standard “45 MPH” sign, and an “ENDS” sign, both bolted to the same post.

So the decision is not just about whether the sign says 45 or 55 on it; it’s about the extra costs incurred by the “ENDS” sign. Sure, it’s not a large addition, but still a pointless expense that requires extra bolts just to mount it, as well as the labor for installation.

These are small concerns, but I still find it baffling as to why they’d go out of their way like this to post an arguably inferior method of posting the speed limit.

My bad. I assumed it was an “end speed limit” sign which I’ve seen. Those are the size of a standard speed limit sign. I didn’t realize this one had the standard 45 mph sign and the small “ends” sign tacked on top. That is just stupid.

I’ve seen those too, and they’re just as bad. Same size, same amount of reflective white paint, same amount of black... but no benefit, just (mild) confusion. By the time you’ve explained that everyone should know what the Basic Speed Limit is, you could have just posted the right sign in the first place.
